The team here at eta were recently tasked by Lancaster and Morecambe College to develop a number of sustainability focused qualifications. The qualifications were written and completed in a little over a month, and Maggie Cawthorn of LMC spoke of her delight at the efficiency and speed of the turnaround:
ETA have been delighted to work with Maggie and the team to support the development of sustainability qualifications for Lancaster and Morecambe College. The deadlines were tight but between us we managed to bring to life brand new qualifications which met the green agenda brief in record time”
The qualifications impart a broad range of knowledge and skills to support the retrofit and renewables industries through Levels 1 to 3. They also address fundamental responsibilities that we all have to ensure our environmental awareness remains up to date and pertinent to our own circumstances.
It’s now more important than ever for businesses to be able to measure their carbon footprint and have robust environmental policies in place, not only for the environment, but also to help them win/retain business and access funding.
Our Level 2 Award in Managing Business Responses to Environmental Challenges is aimed at Leaders/ Managers in business and helps them to navigate this vitally important agenda, avoid the ‘greenwash’, confusing messages, jargon and noise and to measure their carbon footprint/environmental policies and more importantly embed the key principles needed for a robust and strategic approach to Net Zero.
Partnership between Lancaster & Morecambe College and is set to continue with further developments in the pipeline, addressing vital skills gaps to meet net zero aspirations within the local area. Both the College and eta will be sharing this suite of sustainability qualifications with FE providers across the UK to ensure a broad web of access and awareness to the issues that they seek to combat.

We also recently attended Burnley College’s brand new Low Carbon Hub at AMRC North West supporting the SDF Low Carbon Accelerator Fund.
The new £20 million applied R&D centre is based on a model for academic and industry collaboration pioneered by the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC), which has been hugely successful in driving innovation and attracting investment into the region.
The AMRC North West, situated to the east of Preston, will play a major role in driving innovation in the UK’s advanced manufacturing sectors including aerospace, digital manufacturing, clean energy technologies and additive manufacturing.
